Artbeat 30 July

Des here, posting on this week’s Artbeat. This weekend sees the second Dun Laoghaire Festival of Traditional Music known as Tradition:DL. This years festival features The Frost Is All Over: a unique collaboration of Tony Mc Mahon’s accordion and Dermot Bolger’s words, and traditional artists of the calibre of the fiddle playing of Paddy Glackin, the English duo Spiers and Boden, and Scots Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis. I’ll be talking to festival Curator Toner Quinn about the line-up. Details of the festival at the Pavilion Theatre website.

In the current exhibition at the Gallery of Photography, Midland – Photograps from the Interior – three emerging photographers reveal the dark exoticism, the formal beauty and the mystery of Ireland’s midlands.
With new work that has not been shown before in this country, Ciaran Óg Arnold, Martin Cregg and Michael Snoek explore the physical, social and psychological landscapes of Ireland’s forgotten heartland.
I’ll be taking a tour of the exhibition with Tanya Kiang of the Gallery of Photography. More on the exhibition here.
