Latest Music Network tour with Fidelio Trio & clarinettist Carol McGonnell
Music Network’s latest tour presents the London based Fidelio Trio augmented with Dublin born clarinettist Carol McGonnell. A cursory browse at the trio’s discography shows a wide sweep of the twentieth century’s most influential composers (Ravel, Schonberg and Korngold) to an album of modern Irish Trios featuring work by Donnacha Dennehy and Deirdre Gribbin.
McGonnell is based in New York and is part of that city’s innovative new music scene. She’s collaborated with leading composers including Elliott Carter and Oliver Knussen. The music for this tour reflects this interest in challenging work. Bartók’s Contrasts for Clarinet, Violin & Piano brings out that composer’s Hungarian influence and Messiaen’s deeply moving 1941 Quartet for the End of Time was first heard in prisoner-of-war camp where the French composer was being held captive. Full tour details (28 March – 3 April 2012) are here on the Music Network website.
